Erica Bergere

"I've recently been re-captivated by ceramics and the pottery wheel..."

“I’ve recently been re-captivated by ceramics and the pottery wheel, especially enjoying connecting my hands with the earth. The implausibility of wheel-thrown hollow rings linked together and other pillowy closed forms fired in a 4 day, 3 night, wood-fire, anagama kiln, has been a tremendous exploration. The wood ash turns the air to liquid vapor potentially glazing everything together. The familial relationships of the closed forms with each other, and with the wood ash glaze sunsetting, create a playful, introspective, interactive, community dance. I am feeling a special connection with my broken chain and broken link series as it relates to so many forms of colonization, patriarchy, and racism in our current world and recent past. ”
